EGG and CRACK were quite visible in the scramble, and with both words crossed out, the -ING suffix in the remainder ended up saving the day. The cartoon sentence and dialogue mentioning MORNING, EARLY RISER and OMELET had me thinking eggs - but it was no blind solve this morning. Just to the right of the sun was Jumble Jeff’s signature sinking sailboat which he almost always includes in cartoons that feature water. 100 pleats is the ultimate achievement so it looks like he has a ways to go! My favorite detail was the beautiful sunrise taking place out on the horizon. Legend has it that the number of pleats on a chef’s toque signified how many ways he’s learned to prepare an egg. The chef’s hat, otherwise known as a toque, had nine pleats. There was some cursive writing on the bottom right of the cooktop, but all I could make out was the first letter which was K. On his workstation were three containers of omelet fillings, a single burner cooktop with four flames gently lapping the bottom of his frying pan and a carton of eggs with seven of them visible. Our cartoon brings us to a seaside restaurant where we encounter a chef greeting his first guest of the day. Looking at my notes from the last time it was used (6/13/21) showed that I struggled with it on that day as well so it’ll be my pick for today’s hardest anagram. The trickiest one for me was ENTICE as it looked like ENCITE. Hoyt didn’t serve up any new clue words this morning, but all of his anagrams were. GET CRACKING would also be a great punswer for a cartoon featuring a chiropractor who was running late for work! Happy Wednesday Jumble fans! What an egg-cellent pun. ![]()
